The Same Flame
Ballet Cymru teamed up with composer Thomas Hewitt Jones and choir to produce a new work based on Hewitt Jones’ composition ‘The Same Flame’, featuring live choir The Vivum Singers and guest dancer Suzie Birchwood.
Thomas Hewitt Jones is an award-winning composer of both concert and commercial music. Winner of the 2003 BBC Young Composer Competition, Thomas has since had numerous pieces performed, broadcast and published. ‘The Same Flame’ is a 35-minute choral work by Hewitt Jones portraying Olympic values, with lyrics by distinguished poet and broadcaster, Matt Harvey. It was published by Boosey & Hawkes in 2012 and released on Vivum Records. Ballet Cymru were delighted to work with Thomas on ‘The Same Flame’, having written the scores for the Company’s ballets ‘Under Milk Wood‘ and ‘Lady of the Lake‘ in previous years.
‘Darius James, Amy Doughty and his dancers have created a largely lyrical flow of choreography that seamlessly linked the songs.’

‘So many great talents on display. Each and every artist complemented and extended the other arts on display; this combination gave a magical feel to the evening. Moving harmonies from the Vivum Singers, great music under the direction of the composer, a rare treat.’
