Ballet Cymru CHINA TOUR September 2019
Critics’ Circle Award winning company, Ballet Cymru, are delighted to announce that they will be touring to 3 cities in China in September 2019, in collaboration with Wales Arts International and Shenzhen based promoter AC Orange.
Winner of Best Large-Scale Dance Production at the Theatre Critics of Wales Awards 2014, Romeo a Juliet will be performed in Shijiazhuang (Population 2.19 million), Langfang (Population 4.36 million) and Shenzhen (Population 12.53 million).
This production is a dynamic and unique collaboration between 3 of Wales’ outstanding arts organisations, Ballet Cymru, Coreo Cymru (The Dance Creative Producer for Wales) and the Riverfront Theatre in Newport.
Intense fighting, passionate duets and universal themes echo through dramatic and lyrical choreography. Exquisite costumes and extraordinary video projections create a world of danger and excitement where two young lovers are caught in an age-old feud.
Romeo a Juliet features costumes by Georg Meyer-Wiel who studied at The Royal College of Art and has created costumes for some of the world’s leading companies including Rambert Dance Company and Australian Dance Theatre.
Artistic Director Darius James OBE:
“I am hugely excited to be taking Ballet Cymru to China this year. Romeo a Juliet is a production entirely made in wales that showcases the some of the best dancers working in Wales today. It has been an exceptional year, meeting Prince Charles in March to receive my OBE for Services to Ballet and Community Dance, and now representing Wales on a world stage with a company based in my home town of Newport.”Back to News
